How Low?

New Melones Winners: 1st place John Hagan, 2nd place Britt Brittain, Big Fish winner Jim Fritz and 3rd place Bon Gotuaco

Angels Camp Ca- Low was the word of the day for the Bass Busters 9th tournament of the year at New Melones Reservoir. The Tuttletown ramp was down to its lowest launch ramp, the number of anglers was low, the fish count was low, and the weight was low. Of the fourteen anglers only two weighed in limits of fish and those took first and second place. John Hagan captured first with 5.85 lbs of mostly Spotted Bass and one Houdini Bass that leapt off the measuring board and disappeared into an impossibly small opening in the floor of his Ranger. Reaching his arm into the slimy abyss John managed to recatch his catch before it tunneled its way out to freedom. As with most of the fish caught in the tournament John got his fish with a dropshot.

Coming in second was last year's rookie of the year, Britt Brittain who plied the floating docks at the Glory Hole Marina with his dropshot  to get his 5.01 lb limit.

Bon Gotuaco secured third place with his 4.85 lbs sack witch he lured from the depths into his livewell again with a dropshot. He also used a craw tube just to be difficult.

Jim Fritz added another Big Fish trophy to his collection with a 4.5lb Large mouth caught on a chrome Zara Spook early in the morning.

At the other end of the spectrum Jon Wagman (me) and John Fernandez battled it out to weigh in the smallest legal fish. Though Wagman thought he had it neatly in hand with his .79lb guppy Fernandez dealt the KO with his .64lb mosquito. For those of you keeping track at home that's .0658 lb/inch and .05 lb/inch respectively.
Those Nelson Boys
I don't know if they didn't get the message that this was an individual tournament but the winners of last months team event Nelson H. and R. Nelson, stuck together to share the joy that is the Low Cash Trophy. They are not the first to share the injustice that is first to worst.  As always I remind you that this travesty of fishing
justice cannot be
avoided by moving
or changing your
name. Perhaps a
large bribe might
work? Redemption
awaits at the Delta
where Low Cash
will ruin someone
else's day.

Next Meeting
Our next meeting is Thursday, October 2nd at the IHOP at 5403 Stevens Creek Blvd (map) in Santa Clara. Start time is 7:30pm. Don't miss out on the fun.

Next Tournament
The Delta, October 18th. It's an individual draw tournament. If you can’t make the meeting and plan to fish the next tournament let someone who is attending the meeting know. The same goes for entry in the big-fish pool. We are launching from Orwood at safe light.
